Stand up for Kids-Love in a Paper Sack

Assemble love bags for homeless teens and young adults
Sunday, 02/24/2019, 09:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Solana Beach Presbyterian Church-Room #113
120 Stevens Avenue
Solana Beach, CA 92075

There are no special requirements for this job. Wear comfortable clothes and be sure to bring your own water and a snack. We will be working in a classroom with tables and chairs.
This project would be great for kids a minimum of 6 years old with a parent or other volunteer to supervise them.

We also encourage teenagers and young adults to join. It would be very special if the notes included in the bags were from a person of a similar age to those served by Stand Up For Kids.

Stand Up for Kids is a national non-profit organization with 18 locations across the United States. Their mission is to end the cycle of youth homelessness. Their vision is to strive to build communities where all youth know care, feel loved and have a support system to help them move quickly from surviving to thriving. Several of the locations have an Outreach Center where youth can drop-in to rest, receive a hot meal, receive healthcare, meet with volunteer counselors, and receive help with applications for housing, school, and/or citizenship. Some locations also accommodate shower and laundry facilities. Oceanside provides Street Outreach and an Outreach Center, and the San Diego location provides the addition of Apartment Support and Mentoring

Join us this Community Serve Day as we put together "Love in a Paper Sack" bags for Oceanside and San Diego Stand Up for Kids, ages 13 to 25. The bags are a "gift" meant to encourage and lift spirits. Stand Up For Kids receives plenty of donations of clothes, food and toiletries, so the purpose of Love in a Paper Sack is unique. It is to provide emotional support, love, and caring through a special GIFT to lift spirits during difficult times. Each bag contains items that connect, nourish and nurture.

At CSD we will affix the labels to the "Love in a Paper Sack" bags and to the homemade granola bars, pack the bags with the items provided and finish each bag with tissue paper and a ribbon. Also, bring along your ideas and thoughts for words of inspiration and encouragement to pass on to the kids in a personalized note that will be included in each "Love in a Paper Sack"..

The Site Leader will then deliver the bags to Stand Up for Kids in Oceanside and San Diego.

Minimum age is 6 (high school and college students are especially appreciated!)

The granola bars will be baked ahead of time. Please let your Site Leader know if you are interested in doing this. A special recipe, origintated by the person who inspired this project, will be provided.

Also, bring along your ideas and thoughts for words of inspiration and encouragement to pass on to the kids in a personalized note that will be included in each "Love in a Paper Sack".
